Location / Historical Significance:
The Forest Southview Historic District is located directly south of the Forest Moraine Historical District and north of the Indi-Illi Park Historic District. Both of which are part of a larger grouping of six districts which hug the state line area of the city. One of a much larger collection of neighborhoods which came about during the early part of twentieth century in response to the city's expansive growth. The area's historical dwellings reflect many of the more popular architectural styles of the time period.
Much like the Glendale Park Addition, the Forest Southview area was platted out an a very exclusive neighborhood for the city's more wealthy residents. Expansive large sized lots front a wide two block long curving road, which runs the entire length of the subdivision. Although several homes do face Hohman and State Line Avenues. Lush mature landscaping and deep setbacks from the street and the large grand scale of many of the homes, surely gives the district a feeling of great wealth and affluence.

Architectural Styles:
Most of the homes in the district were built during the time frame of 1920 to 1940 and include some significant examples of many of the period revival architectural styles. One of the area's original land owners built a stunning example of the Colonial Revival style. The Paxton-Diamond Mansion at 6620 Hohman Avenue is not to be missed. A neighboring home at 6550 Hohman Avenue also represents another interpretation of this style of architecture.
Many of the city's most finest examples of the Tudor Revival style can be found here in the district. Several other less commonly found period revival architectural styles can also be seen here in the neighborhood. A French Eclectic style is located at 6608 Forest Avenue. A fine example of the Spanish Eclectic style can be found at 6537 Forest Avenue. The district's only example of the Renaissance Revival is at 6534 Forest Avenue.
The works of several Hammond architects can be found in the district. Famous Hammond architect L. Cosby Bernard Sr. designed the Tudor Revival styled residence at 6640 Hohman Avenue. Hess & Greenwood, once a Hammond architectural design firm, drew up the plans for the Dr. Francis Fox home at 6518 Forest Avenue and the home at 6501 Moraine Avenue. The Hess part of the firm's name comes from Louis Hess, grandson of Joseph Hess, the founder of Hessville.
